FAQs – Flat Rooflights

We offer a range of glazing types including clear, solar control, grey tint, and satin privacy glass. You can also choose between double or triple glazed units depending on your insulation needs and budget.

What’s the difference between frameless and framed flat rooflights?

Frameless rooflights offer a clean, all-glass look with no visible frame, making them ideal for modern minimalist interiors. Framed rooflights, typically made with thermally broken aluminium, provide added structure and are ideal where a visible edge is acceptable.

Are flat rooflights suitable for kitchens or bathrooms?

Yes — flat rooflights are perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and any room where you want to increase daylight. Options with privacy or solar control glass are also available, making them suitable for moisture-heavy spaces.

Can I install a flat rooflight on a pitched roof?

Flat rooflights are designed primarily for flat or low-pitch roofs (ideally 5° to promote water drainage). For steeper pitched roofs, a different roof window or skylight system is recommended.

Do your rooflights come in custom sizes?

Yes — both our frameless and framed flat rooflights are available in custom sizes. Simply choose from our standard range or contact us with your exact dimensions.

What U-values do your rooflights achieve?

Our flat rooflights offer excellent thermal performance. U-values range from 1.2 W/m²K (double glazed) to 0.7 W/m²K (triple glazed), helping to maintain energy efficiency year-round.

Do flat rooflights require planning permission?

In most cases, flat rooflights fall under permitted development rights and do not require planning permission — as long as they don’t protrude more than 150mm from the roof surface. However, it’s always best to check with your local planning authority for specific requirements.

How are flat rooflights installed?

Flat rooflights are typically installed onto an upstand or kerb, which raises the unit slightly off the roof surface. They should be fitted at a slight pitch (around 5°) to allow rainwater to run off the glass effectively. We recommend professional installation to ensure a watertight seal and compliance with building regulations.

Are your rooflights supplied with upstands?

Some of our flat rooflights can be supplied with matching upstands, but others are designed to be installed onto existing or builder-supplied upstands. Please check each product page for specific supply options, or contact us for advice.

What glass options are available for your flat rooflights?
